Principles of ASC
ASC, which stands for Ammonia Slip Catalyst, is an exhaust aftertreatment device used in diesel vehicle SCR systems. Its fundamental principle is to use a catalyst to oxidize unreacted ammonia (NH₃) in the exhaust into harmless nitrogen (N₂) and water (H₂O) under high-temperature conditions. In an SCR system, diesel vehicles inject a urea solution to produce ammonia that reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOₓ). However, sometimes not all ammonia fully reacts and a portion—known as ammonia slip—escapes the process. The ASC oxidizes this residual ammonia, thereby reducing harmful emissions and preventing secondary pollution.
Key Functions of the ASC:
